Following his surprising arrest Monday on gun charges in New York, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da'Quan Bowers was arrained and posted a $10,000 bail later in the evening.

Bowers, a second round pick out of Clemson in 2011, was charged with carrying a loaded handgun at LaGuardia airport early Monday morning. He alerted police about the presence of the gun and was arrested at the check-in counter.

Bowers was then charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a charge that could land him in prison for a minimum of 3.5 years and maximum of 15 years.

But Bowers' attorney, Dennis Coppin, thinks his client will be just fine.

"After a full and fair investigation of the facts and circumstances regarding this registered firearm Mr. Bowers will be fully exonerated,'' said Coppin on Tuesday.

Bowers' fate rests in the hands of the Queens County District Attorney’s office, who will decide the final charges after a review of the facts. One of the things that remain unclear is whether or not Bowers legally owned the gun. Reports say that it is registered to Bowers in South Carolina. If that is the case, perhaps Bowers could have his charges reduced or even dropped.

Bowers has 4.5 sacks in 26 games during his first two seasons with the Bucs.
