The good news is that the Bucs fixed that problem in the offseason and this year have enjoyed an amazing turnaround. The Bucs have the league's best run defense halfway through the season, allowing just 77.2 rushing yards per game.
Unfortunately for Tampa Bay, it can't stop opposing quarterbacks from putting up Madden-like numbers against its secondary.
The Bucs currently have the NFL's worst pass defense, giving up 321.1 yards per game through the air. That is a full 20 yards more per game than the next closest team.
It's bizarre to see a professional team with a defense that is so good in one area and so bad at another. The Bucs run defense has been amazing this year and they lead the NFL in tackles for a loss. But the pass defense has been atrocious and they can't stop anybody right now.
The crazy thing about Tampa Bay's secondary is that while they give up so many yards, it is currently ranked second in the league in interceptions with 13. The Bucs trail only the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants when it comes to picking off passes.
If the Bucs can tighten up their pass defense and stop allowing so many big gains, this defense could be really scary as they fight for a wildcard spot in the second half of the season.
