Last Meeting: The Bucs fell to .500 when they lost 27-16 to the Saints in Week 9 last season. Josh Freeman threw for 281 yards and one touchdown, but the defense couldn't stop Drew Brees, who had 258 passing yards with two touchdowns.
Key Matchup on Offense:
QB Josh Freeman vs. New Orleans' secondary – The Bucs have Connor Barth, who is one of the best kickers in the NFL, but they may be looking at a shootout against the Saints. That means it will be up to Freeman to put the ball in the end zone. The Saints' defense is awful and ranked dead last in the league in yards per game. Freeman should be able to pick apart New Orleans' shoddy secondary and rack up yards through the air. But when he gets in the red zone, Freeman has to be responsible with the football and find paydirt when possible. If he can do that, the Bucs should hold serve and get to .500 this week.
Key Matchup on Defense:
Tampa Bay's cornerbacks vs. WR Marques Colston – While the Bucs caught a break when Pro Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham didn't make the trip to Tampa for the game, they still have to contend with the deadly Marques Colston. The 6-foot-4 Colston has caught more passes against the Bucs than any other team in his career and is coming off a huge 3-touchdown game. Normally, Aqib Talib would be matched up against the big and tall Colston, but he is serving a 4-game suspension. It will up to Eric Wright and E.J. Biggers to try and slow down Brees' primary weapon in the passing game.
