After a year in Tennessee, linebacker Barrett Ruud is back in the NFC South – just not with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On Monday, the New Orleans Saints traded an undisclosed draft pick to the Seattle Seahawks for Ruud. The Saints have a huge hole at the linebacker position with recent injuries to Chris Chamberlain, Curtis Lofton, and David Hawthorne.

Given the fact that Ruud has spent most of his career at middle linebacker, he could start in the short-term for Lofton until the Saints' starter gets better.

Ruud came into the league in 2005 as a second-round draft by the Bucs. He became the full-time starting middle linebacker in 2007 and led the team in tackles for four consecutive seasons.

During his career in Tampa Bay, Ruud amassed 743 tackles, seven interceptions, and five sacks. He signed with the Titans in 2011 after the Bucs elected not to re-sign him in free agency.
