The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking for a full house at Raymond James Stadium on opening day when the team takes on their NFC South rival Carolina Panthers. To make that happen, the Bucs are planning on honoring defensive back Ronde Barber, who will be starting his 200th consecutive game against the Panthers.
Along with celebrating Barber's amazing achievement, the Bucs will be giving away commemorative Ronde Barber gym sacks, offering free parking in select lots, and discounting concessions (excluding alcohol) by 50 percent.
"As we usher in a new Buccaneer era that kicks off in September, we are looking forward to celebrating Ronde Barber's 200th consecutive start," co-chairman Bryan Glazer said in a statement. "Ronde has made us all proud during his 15 seasons with the team, and this next milestone is yet another along the road that we expect will lead to Canton. Our fans have a lot to look forward to this season, and we hope this promotion helps give everyone the chance to both celebrate a Bucs great and join the fight."
Tickets for Tampa Bay's home opener will go on sale on Friday. Tickets to the other home games will be available at a later date.
Barber, 37, joined the Bucs as a third-round pick out of Virginia in 1997. His streak of 199 straight starts currently makes him the NFL's Iron Man and it is the longest such streak by a cornerback in league history.
The five-time Pro Bowler is the only player in NFL history with at least 40 interceptions (43) and 25 sacks (27). After spending his first 15 seasons at cornerback, Barber re-signed with the Bucs this offseason and is attempting to make the switch to free safety.Tags: Football, NFL, Ronde Barber, Tampa Bay, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
