It seemed as though the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and new head coach Greg Schiano were never going to hire an offensive coordinator.

Turns out they were just waiting for their man to lead his pupil to another Super Bowl victory.

As first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bucs have hired New York Giants’ quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan to be their offensive coordinator. Sullivan is fresh off a championship run with the Giants and a season that was quarterback Eli Manning’s finest as a pro.

Sullivan was the Giants receivers coach for six seasons before taking over as quarterbacks coach. In the past two seasons with the help of Sullivan, Manning has turned into one of the best signal callers in the NFL.

In 2010, Manning completed 62.9 percent of passes for 4,002 yards with 31 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. Last year, Manning’s yardage numbers skyrocketed and he threw for 4,933 yards with 29 touchdowns to just 16 interceptions en route to his second Super Bowl victory in four seasons.

Buccaneers101.com believes this is a great hire not only for the Bucs offense, but for quarterback Josh Freeman as well. Buccaneers101.com has long compared Freeman to Manning, a player that has always had the ability to play much better than he always did – up until this past season that is.

Before working with the Giants, Sullivan was an offensive assistant in Jacksonville in 2003. The year prior he was a defensive quality control coach to then head coach Tom Coughlin.

Sullivan had previous stints in the college ranks at Ohio University (2001), Army (1995-1996 and 1999-2000), Youngstown State (1997-1998), and Humboldt State (1993), where he received his Master’s degree after graduating from Army.
